Frequently asked questions
What’s the difference between an allergy and an intolerance?
What you will find is that an allergy is more severe than an intolerance and the reaction is usually felt immediately.
Allergies also tend to be with you for life. Conversely, intolerances are typically less severe in nature and can change over time.
Additionally, the symptoms of an intolerance are not immediate, manifesting anywhere from 10 minutes to 48 hours after the food has been consumed.
What do my results actually mean?
It is quite common for something that has never caused you an issue to start doing so, depending on your diet, your habits and your environment.
If, for reasons of poor immune system levels or poor diet, you have too much of one particular element in your system, your body will have trouble dealing with these increased levels.
The side effects this imbalance causes is known as an intolerance.
So, you can see that it’s as much to do with your habits as your biology.
How do I take a hair sample?
The safest way to take a hair sample is to ask someone else to help you. First brush your hair upwards to reveal the root area at the back of the head, then holding a small amount of hair between the finger and thumb, cut the hair as close to the scalp as possible (without drawing blood). If you do not have anyone to help you, using a mirror may help ensure you avoid injury.
How much hair do I have to provide?
Only a small amount – 5 individual strands of hair. We do not require large clumps of hair.
My hair is dyed, will this affect the result?
No, the test is completed on the composition of the hair sample so hair colouring will have no effect on the result.
How long will it take?
The sooner you send off your results the quicker the lab will be able to process your results. If you wait to send your samples the lab can take several weeks to process your test. However if you send it off within 3 days it usually takes no longer than 2 weeks.
How will i get the results?
What if I don't know what it means?
That's no problem at all. You can book in with Kelly for a 90 minute review session to discuss exactly what your results mean for you and what you can do to work towards improving your health. That way you will have a full understanding of what your looking at and how to action the positive steps to change your diet in relation to your test results.
